The Cadillac

The Cadillac has been a big seller for General Motors who owns the brand Cadillac. Sales outside North America however have been terrible with little to no interest, mainly due to its size and design. Cadillac is however a luxury car. It has been compared to the Rolls Royce.

Cadillac has a long history with its first car being produced in October 1902. It had over 2000 sales in the first year which for the times were a lot of orders. General Motors purchased the company outright in 1909 and became a prestige division there on after.

The Cadillac model was often used as ambulances, limousines and even hearses. The Cadillac was the first in many things. It was the first car manufacturer to use the Phillips screw, it was also the first car manufacturer to target African Americans as customers. It was also the only car manufacturer to remain profitable through the great depression.

The classic Cadillac tail fin was first designed in the late 40’s. The 1959 Cadillac was created at the height of the tail fin craze and was wildly popular with the youth market. The 1959 Cadillac is still one of the most popular models of Cadillac and is sort after by car enthusiasts all over the United states and all over the world.

By the 60’s, the Cadillac design had been toned down, but still had the tail fin in place. In fact, some models of the Cadillac now still have the classic tail fin. Cadillac again tried to appeal to the youth market in the 80’s with the compact Cimarron. This model was not accepted with the market as it was over priced to similar cars on the market, namely the Chevrolet Cavalier.

Cadillacs recent progression (like most car manufacturers) was in the SUV market with the Cadillac Escalade which has been made popular by rap artists. It seemed like every rapper in their music video clips were driving around in a pimped up Escalade.

Other recent models include the Cadillac STS V-Series and the Cadillac CTS V-Series. The STS and the STS V-Series have become very popular in America and Canada.
