Citroen is the French car manufacturer that produced their first car in 1919. Citroen’s most popular and successful car came in 1955 when the DS was introduced. The Citroen DS was ahead of its time even 20 years later. Some revolutionary features found on the DS are still not available on most cars today such as the self-leveling, hydro-pneumatic, fully-independent suspension. Upon starting the engine, the DS would raise so that passengers could easily climb aboard and than would lower when the car got up to speed to increase traction. The driver could easily adjust the suspension height lower or higher by as much as six inches depending on road conditions. Citroen became known for making cars that can go anywhere and do anything all with comfort and safety.
